In 3100 A.D., global warming has caused the sea level to rise and flood the streets of Brooklyn.
The land is gone but the society continues to build the city on top of existing structures and connect
them through a network of sky bridges. As the upper class moves higher the law has abandoned the lower
parts of the city.
To meet the upper city's need for laborers, the city leaders contracted the Brooklyn Institute of
Genetics to clone a new working class. At the time, Paleo-Genetics had made incredible advances in cloning.
Neanderthals were chosen as the main focus of the research based on their physical resilience.
The city's contract called for more Neanderthal clones than was required, and the excess clones were discarded
to the bottom of the city. The mafia used these clones to increase its power and influence and became known as the
Merchants of Brooklyn (M.O.B.).
The M.O.B. leader, Frank Gambini, collected the clones and started using them for blood sport gambling in his casinos.
As the fights grew more sensational, they became big business for the M.O.B. In order to control the outcomes of the fights,
Frank enlisted a genetic engineer named Antonio Savio to secretly create an enhanced clone named Matteo.
Being the ultimate clone fighter, Matteo was well on his way to becoming the top fighter when he lost his arm battling
a new type of mutant clone.
In an effort to protect Frank's key asset, the M.O.B. acquired an experimental biomechanical arm created at the
Brooklyn Institute of Technology. The arm integrates with the body's nervous system in a way never before possible.
It's designed to enhance organic and inorganic material to dramatically increase a fighter's potential.
Equipped with his new arm, Matteo is sent back to his cell to await his next fight.
